Cynthia Beth Rubin
Cynthia Beth Rubin is a new media artist whose works frequently evoke cultural memories and the imagined past by intertwining photographic elements in complex layers of representation and abstraction. Her fascination with the imagined hidden sensations of unseen history recently led to envisioning the unseen microscopic life. Rubin's work has been recognized internationally through exhibitions and film festivals, including the Jewish Museum in Prague, the Siberia State Art Museum, the Kyrgyzstan State Museum, and in cities such as Paris, New York, Toronto, Montreal and elsewhere around the world. Rubin's awards include multiple Connecticut Artist Fellowships, the New England Foundation on the Arts, the Memorial Foundation for Jewish Culture and other awards, and artist residencies in France, Israel, Canada, and Scotland. Rubin produces solo works and collaborative works. Currently collaborating with Oceanographers in the Menden-Deuerlab at the University of Rhode Island, her Plankton Portraits have been shown in a range of venues including the electronic billboard at the Cotton Club in New York City and a presentation at ISEA (International Symposium on Electronic Art) in Dubai and ACM Creativity and Cognition in Glasgow. Cynthia Beth Rubin holds degrees from Antioch College and the Maryland Institute College of Art in Painting. She serves as Chair of the Digital Arts Committee of ACM SIGGRAPH, and is serves in advisory roles for multiple arts organizations including ISEA, the Jewish Art Salon, Art Kibbutz, and Knowledge Capital in Japan. At Art Kibbutz she is an active and much appreciated member of the Programming Committee and the Evaluation Committee and participated at several artist residencies and exhibitions, including: Environmental/Land Art Residency at Eden Village where she began creating Eden Waters, the traveling environmental art exhibition on Governor's Island featured two years in a row, as well as the Rooted, The Ecological Duality of Nature and Jewish Identity Exhibition at the Manny Cantor Center. Her Augmented Reality premiered at the Shmita ArtFest on Governor's Island. She actively participated and helped create the Creative Catalyst Symposium, bringing artists and activists together for change.
In 2016 Cynthia is an artist-in-residence and also bringing her 'ARt, ARchitecture & AR: Augmented Reality & Jewish Art exhibition together with Yona Verwer to Art Kibbutz between August 21 and September 18 - partially overlapping with the Governors Island Art Fair (September weekends). Cynthia has been an Art Kibbutz Programming Committee member and regularly exhibited with Art Kibbutz, including The Invisible Jew exhibition in June 2018.
In 2020 Cynthia is a presenter with Chana Wiesenthal Elias at the Jewish Art Salon, Art Kibbutz, JADA Virtual Open Studios on May 3rd 2020.
