Harriet Fink
Harriet Finck (East Orange, NJ) began making art that was sparked by her deep Jewish background about ten years ago when she began participating in and then teaching an Artist Beit Midrash at her synagogue. Harriet will use a phrase from the Tanach, often about nature, to inform the work that she does about natural phenomena. Harriet has also done a two year project on the book of job, and has done an installation based on Shir HaShirim (Song of Songs). Working in series, Harriet may also begin with a phrase from a large text, such as the Book of Job, and build a layered painting from it. She may write the entire book on a scroll, she may take fragment and write them in different ways. For Harriet, a piece is all about seeing the words, and sometimes it is all about covering them. For the period of the residency at Art Kibbutz, Harriet would like to pursue a multi media project based on the book of Kohelet (Ecclesiastes). More
