Kobi Arad: Hebrew Letter Combinations

Model: Instantaneous Composition Applied to Nature, Visual Art and Divine
Dr. Kobi Arad's areas of expertise (Third Stream improvisation and composition) were incorporated with various aspects and themes found in nature as well as incorporated with visual arts; both themes shall find their musical expression in Divine Names and Hebrew letter combinations. Themes from nature, such as wind, water flowing, fire and the four elements were integrated and translated towards mystical vernacular, and thus used as creative fuel for musical exploration. Both direct sonic reference as well as indirect references shall be used to allude to these themes.
A group of musicians explored creative responses to nature's elements both in immediate allusion – as well through response to visual artists' take on nature. An additional layer of profundity were introduced towards the interaction of musicians and visual artists by translating nature's themes towards Divine Names and letter combinations – thus exciting cross-stimulation in all directions. For example, the element of 'water' was transformed into the divine name 'Vav Mem Beit' which alludes to this element. By assigning each of the Hebrew Alphabet to its 12 tone counterpart, and in conjunction with its combinatorial possibilities (in a system evolved by Dr. Kobi Arad) – each of the musical ensemble members, may find themselves own musically, while interlocking with the greater picture; and also by being fertilized by the visual artists (that may use these Hebrew letters in their art) enhancing back and forth and perpetuating the creative continuum. This created a creative language assuming greater vantage points and assist in group communication as well as lending itself for the formation of cohesive epistemological and musical framework (within which all participating artists work and interact). The greater aim of this program was to fine-tune and increase the participants' aesthetic and humane sensitivities, tuning closer into nature's remarkable aspects being divine creation; yet tuning deeper into ourselves and bettering our communication with each other as human beings - thus integrating our own self with the greater whole. This should in turn lead participants towards harmonizing with additional unseen dimensions, fortifying and glorifying our experience of the beauty of nature's song. Music sample
