At Art Kibbutz we have a lot of dreams.
At the core of Art Kibbutz is the belief that providing a physical space for artistic creation is the most crucial: time, space, quiet, comfort, discipline, community, learning, and commitment. Besides a private bedroom and regular meals, each artist will be provided with an assigned studio. Studios will be created with the artists’ needs in mind. During the day artists could work free of the constraints of the art world and existential stress. Art Kibbutz balances concentrated, productive work time with the stimulation of cultural exchange and communal events.
Art Kibbutz, as an organization, has Three Phases.
PHASE 1 - WHERE WE WERE
Start ISLAND Develop library Provide workshops Nurture community relationships PHASE 2 - WHERE WE ARE Start artist and farmer residency programs Ramp up workshops Help plan and execute Northern Michigan Small Farm Conference and Farm School Partner with other bad-ass non-profits and businesses PHASE 3 - WHERE WE'RE GOING Erect community space for dances, art exhibits, potlucks, classes, and more Provide housing for multiple artists at the residency Build a working farm Materialize the concept "art meets earth" through the collaboration of artists, farmers, and ecologists on the Crosshatch property We'll keep you updated and informed on our efforts and needs as we move closer to Phase 3. If you're interested in helping out, pitching in, or just staying in loop, sign up for our mailing list.

The idea: an inspiring and peaceful space to create
A HUB of like-minded artists
Artists in residence will share their work, ideas and experiences with each other in the evenings in a relaxed, comfortable and informal setting. The programming includes daily discussions, events, and Jewish learning with outstanding guest lecturers and in-house scholars leading an artist beit midrash. Artists have opportunities to volunteer, engage in community gardening (space permitting), and create joint artistic collaborations.
Like the most important artist colonies, such as Yaddo or MacDowell Colony, at Art Kibbutz artists are working professionally and are admitted based on artistic excellence and interest in exploring the Jewish communal experience. Artists arrive with a commitment to work, and be part of a creative, intentional Jewish community.
Art Kibbutz is an open, pluralistic, but not necessarily religious environment that is infused with Jewish values and resources. Art Kibbutz provides Shabbat-friendly accommodations as well as healthy and nutritious kosher communal meals for breakfast and dinner with vegetarian options.

Supporting the facilities
Art Kibbutz is looking for a permanent home. A gift of outstanding generosity, a real estate donation is key for Art Kibbutz's success on the long run. The creative process that the colony nurtures is deeply rooted in, and depends entirely on, a physical place. We are seeking a spacious mansion, an inn, a former factory or a camp (optimally with 15+ guest rooms and/or studio space) as a permanent residence, mid-term (1 year) or short term usage (3-5 weeks). We are looking for locations in New York City and/or max. 1.5 hours away from the city in upstate New York (especially Westchester, Catskills and Putnam), Connecticut, Long Island with good transportation.
